LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
Dear Supporters & Friends of GMoA,
Our upcoming show, HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE COLLECTION, opens on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 5PM – 8PM. We will be exhibiting selections of our Permanent Collection throughout the entire museum. We are proud to mention that we have grown our collection from the original 16 pieces to over 200! We feel that this is an enormous accomplishment, and we hope you will be able to come see what we have acquired.

Some of the collection has come from art that we have purchased from American-based artists, while other art has come from generous donations to the museum. We are grateful to those who have supported us through their donations.

Our purpose in displaying these artworks to the public is not only an exhibition for viewers, but an opportunity for them to study various art styles and cultural contexts. A Permanent Collection is often considered the core of a museum, reflecting its roots, identity, and values. GMoA’s collection, for the most part, consists of American Art; art local to DeKalb County; regional art; and in recent years, a focus on national American Art which we have exhibited and acquired. The artworks in the Permanent Collection are maintained for the long-term, ensuring their preservation for future generations.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE COLLECTION opens on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 5PM – 8PM with a FREE Opening Reception, where all ages of the public are welcome. The show will run May 2, 2025 through June 15, 2025.
We are also excited to be hosting an exhibition of Edward Curtis‘ work, opening June 20, 2025. Edward Curtis was a champion of his time: an advocate for all Native Americans / Alaska Natives; a warrior of documenting history through words and pictures; and a defender of Indigenous dignity and honor. He knew the importance of the work being done, giving future generations insight and awareness of North American Native cultures. Fifty of these significant images will be displayed at the Garrett Museum of Art! Keep an eye out for more details in the coming weeks.

As always, thank you for your unwavering support.See you soon!
