Event Details

Eckhart Public Library is hosting a community book discussion on Tim O’Brien’s 1990 book The Things They Carried. The book is based, in part, on O’Brien’s own experiences during the Vietnam War.

Books will be available at the Library beginning March 1st. A library card is not needed to borrow a book for this program, though we will need your contact information to lend it to you. We can also place holds on the book through Evergreen for Evergreen Indiana library card holders.

There will be two in-person discussions in the Assembly Room at the Main Library:
-Tuesday, April 22: 6:30 – 8:00 pm
-Saturday, April 26: 1:00 – 2:30 pm

And one online discussion:
-Friday, April 25: 10:00 – 11:30 am

Refreshments will be served at the in-person discussions. The online discussion will take place in Google Meet, and registration is required (click Tickets).

Additionally, the Willennar Genealogy Center, a Service of Eckhart Public Library, will be collecting photos of local people or places and oral histories from anyone who served or lived through that period in U.S. history. Anyone who is interested in sharing their experiences, thoughts, and feelings about what happened is invited to sign up for an oral history session. There are three ways to sign up for a session: fill out the online oral history sign-up form, call 260-925-2414, x420, or email [email protected].
