A National Historic Landmark Eckhart Public Library, built from philanthropic roots, was founded in 1910 and has served the Auburn community since then. Charles Eckhart, founder of the Eckhart Carriage Company before it became the Auburn Automotive Company, donated the funds to build the library originally. Expanded in 1996 and restored after a fire in 2017, the library maintains its historical integrity with modern functionality. Inside the library, you can find original stained glass windows and furniture from the turn of the century as well as artwork displayed throughout the building. The library park features the library's historic fountain which is included on the Smithsonian's list of historic statuary. Visitors are welcome to make use of the library's services including, but not limited to: public WiFi, charging stations, printing, faxing, and public meeting rooms. Eckhart Public Library is a proud member of Evergreen Indiana which connects its services to the other libraries in DeKalb County and throughout the state of Indiana. Information about the library's ongoing programming and services can be found on their website.
