NATMUS Announces Groundbreaking for New 9,000-Square-Foot Storage Facility
AUBURN, IN — The National Auto & Truck Museum (NATMUS) is proud to announce the groundbreaking ceremony for its new 9,000-square-foot cold storage facility, marking an exciting milestone in the museum’s continued growth and its commitment to preserving America’s automotive and trucking heritage.
The groundbreaking ceremony will take place Friday, August 21, at 8:30 a.m. at 1630 S. Wayne Street in Auburn, Indiana, the future site of the museum’s new storage facility.
The event will feature remarks from Auburn Mayor Dave Clark and NATMUS Executive Director Terri Coppens, along with museum volunteers and local city officials who have helped make the project possible. Community members, supporters, and members of the media are invited to attend.
Approved as part of NATMUS’s long-term development plan, the new facility will provide secure storage for vehicles and artifacts that help tell the story of America’s transportation history. The 9,000-square-foot building will feature seven garage bays and has been thoughtfully designed to accommodate the museum’s growing collection while ensuring these historic vehicles and artifacts are preserved for generations to come.
Community Improvements
The project also includes improvements that will benefit the broader Auburn community. The existing sidewalk along Wayne Street will be replaced with a wider pedestrian walkway, allowing for future expansion of the city’s trail network.
In addition, the building’s Wayne Street façade will feature a custom mural designed to complement Auburn’s collection of downtown murals. The mural will create a welcoming gateway that celebrates both the city’s artistic character and its rich automotive heritage.
Mayor Dave Clark praised NATMUS for its continued investment in Auburn and its dedication to preserving history.
