“Local High School Students Portray Lives of Local Citizens at Museum”
(AUBURN) – A presentation of 23 influential people of DeKalb County will be performed on Friday, December 6th, and Saturday, December 7th, at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum. The museum is located in the original 1930s national headquarters of the legendary Auburn Automobile Company and is a National Historic Landmark. Performance times for both Friday, December 6th, and Saturday, December 7th, are from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A partnership between the museum and DeKalb High School welcomes the New Tech Media Lit class as our “wax-figure” actors come to life and share their original stories and historical knowledge of our county’s history.
Come take a walk through history as our actors celebrate and remember some of DeKalb County’s past citizens in an original production entitled Cedar Creek Anthology. Experience the spectacular exhibits and galleries of the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum and watch as our “wax-figure” actors bring to life the stories of significant Auburn figures who helped make this county what it is today. Madison Auten, Collections and Education Manager at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum, said, “This is an exciting chance to explore the untold stories of local historical figures and gain a fresh perspective on the area’s history, all while deepening your connection to the rich heritage that shaped this region.”
As you walk around the Art Deco marvel, you will encounter characters such as All-American Girls Professional Baseball League player Jaynie Krick; Francis Thomson, survivor of the Bataan Death March; Lloyd Erwin Crowl, R-38 dirigible disaster; Jane Brooks Hine, the Indiana Bird Woman; Frank Willis, Civil War Veteran; Martha Falka, founder of Martha’s Popcorn; and many others. Ring the bell and listen as they come to life and tell their stories. Cynthia Boyd, New Tech Media Lit teacher, stated, “The kids have worked hard! We would love for them to have a number of guests wandering through the museum to listen to their stories.”
Please join us as we portray the lives of these people and share their personal stories. Admission is free with a ticket. Tickets will be available beginning on Tuesday, November 26th, and may be picked up at the DeKalb High School Main Office, 9th Street Brew Coffee House, Eckhart Public Library, and Willennar Genealogy Center in Auburn; The Grind in Garrett; or by calling Cindy Boyd or Briana Burggrave at DeKalb High School at (260) 920-1012 (ext. 2187).
